Course Description: Special Effects in the Movies - From the earliest simple trick shots to cutting-edge computer-generated images, the magic of the movies has always been part art, part science, and a whole lot of inventiveness. Expect miniature cities, giant apes, animated antics, spaceships, skeletons, and digitally de-aged actors as we enjoy an in-depth look at over a century of creativity in classic cinema – as well as some overlooked masterpieces. Costume in Film - Clothes might make the man, but the role of the cinematic costume designer can be crucial in making or breaking a whole film. Costumes can evoke bygone eras, tell us hidden truths about characters, make outlandish otherworldly futures believable, and so much more. We will explore some great examples from more than a century of cinema history.
